Malta has entered a new chapter in the evolution of its delivery sector, with the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the General Workers’ Union (GWU) and the Malta Delivery Fleet Operators Association (MDFOA).
As a proud member of the MDFOA, Ferruggia Fleet was honoured to be directly involved in this important milestone one that sets the foundation for a fairer, more transparent, and sustainable future for all food couriers working in Malta.
This agreement introduces, for the first time, a structured framework regulating key aspects of courier employment, including base salaries, working hours, overtime rates, and transparent payment systems. It also places a strong emphasis on workers’ rights, ensuring that every individual regardless of background is treated with dignity and fairness.
At Ferruggia Fleet, we firmly believe that success in business goes hand in hand with responsibility. The industry has grown rapidly over the past few years, becoming essential to daily life in Malta. However, with growth comes the duty to ensure that standards are upheld and that workers are protected.
This MOU represents exactly that:
- A move away from uncertainty toward stability
- A commitment to ethical practices and fair competition
- A unified effort between government, employers, and unions
The agreement also reinforces important principles such as health and safety, mandatory training, proper equipment, and fair remuneration systems that include not only wages, but also statutory bonuses and overtime pay.
For Ferruggia Fleet, participating in this process was not only a responsibility but a commitment to shaping the future of our industry. We are proud to stand alongside other responsible operators who believe in raising standards rather than lowering them.
This is more than just an agreement.
It is a turning point.
As the sector moves toward full collective agreements by January 2026, Ferruggia Fleet remains dedicated to leading by example ensuring compliance, promoting fairness, and supporting every courier who contributes to our success.
Together, we are building an industry that is not only efficient and innovative, but also respectful, professional, and sustainable.
